Graduation Shock: YuiKaori to Graduate StylipS and My Thoughts

There is one thing about Morning Musume and AKB48 that I have just found I truly appreciate; the graduations within these groups are expected, so as a fan, you kind of mentally prepare yourself for these graduations even if you don't want them, because in these groups it is a written rule; at some point, a member will graduate, and a new one will replace them soon after.

So when it comes to other groups that don't have this system, or never had this system from the beginning, it is shocking when it happens.

... Just like it shocked me when I found out that Ishihara Kaori and Ogura Yui had announced their graduation from StylipS.

I Reading this announcement, I think I went into a state of shock; I was probably being mellow-dramatic about it, but at 5am in the morning, there is not much you can do when you want to scream - so I resorted to crying and rocking back and forth for a few minutes as I talked to Nia on facebook about it, though I doubt I made much progress in trying to construct a decent sentence. Even now, about 45 minutes after reading the news, I am still in a state of shock over it. Disbelief too, but mostly shock and sadness.

I mean, really... this is completely unexpected. Why? Why why why is this happening? A few hours ago I was thinking I was so incredibly happy, and wondering what could happen to make me sad and ruin that happiness. Well, considering I just damn well jinxed myself, I am now completely sad, because YuiKaori are graduating StylipS... so of course I fear for YuiKaori as a duo itself, too.

YuiKaori are, to me, an awesome duo; I love them, and I don't want them to disappear... ever. If I knew that eventually they would leave I think I would be perfectly fine with this development, but because both YuiKaori and StylipS seemed to be stable line-ups, I never prepared myself for a 'graduation' like I did with Morning Musume and AKB48, so knowing that these two are now leaving, especially so suddenly, is extremely saddening and shocking to the system in a way. I feel so put out, like my heart has literally been torn out because they are leaving.

I still don't know what to think if they actually are graduating as YuiKaori as well, because if they are then I might just go into a short, miserable state like I did with Saki and Yuuka when they left S/mileage, which brings me to this point...

This reminds me of when Saki suddenly left S/mileage. Much like the new member announcements, it was sudden and unexpected, and many people did not react well to it. This is, to me, Ogawa Saki graduating all over again. It's unexpected, and it certainly is not welcome (for me). Of course I can't do anything about it, it's their choice to leave, but still... with a group like StylipS, and one like S/mileage before the newbs joined, you kind of expect to see the same faces until the group eventually disbands.

Sadly this obviously isn't the case, not that I want StylipS to disband anyway, but because YuiKaori are leaving, two girls who are a BIG part of Style Cube because of their activity in voice acting and singing, and are the two most recognisable members because of that activity and their past with Hello! Project. Okay, so Noto Arisa also has a good fanbase, but YuiKaori are, from what I know, the most recognisable because of their promotion and anime work.

Of course, considering their popularity, I don't think (or at least I hope) that YuiKaori will leave Style Cube, and especially not their duo unit together, because they certainly are popular and very hard working, and I think that right now Style Cube still needs them because they are still building their company.

So, the reason why they are leaving? Both Yui and Kaori have busy schedules and work loads, so they are leaving StylipS to focus on that. From what I know, Kaori is a University student, whilst Yui is probably in her last year of high school, and considering the fact that they both have a lot of seiyuu work... that could be a reason to leave StylipS. Hopefully it is only StylipS they are leaving though, or I would once again be a wreck and so devastated.

And, whilst I'm writing this post, I had better get this out there: When I saw the title on Tokyohive that 'two members of StylipS' were to graduate, I actually thought, and hoped, that it would be Noto Arisa and Matsunaga Maho. Yes, I like Maho, but when it comes to StylipS, I can only think that the two members who could fully carry the name around and still bring it popularity would be YuiKaori, so to hear that they were the ones graduating... well, I was speechless and shocked as I have already said, and even now I still kind of think that, however selfish that is, but it's true; I really think that StylipS is carried by YuiKaori... though mostly Yui.

I'm still shocked, and I still want to cry. Why wouldn't I? I love StylipS, and I love YuiKaori, and knowing that StylipS will go through the same change that S/mileage did leaves me feeling doubtful for their future. When S/mileage had four members, I loved them, and when they had new members, I embraced them only to be disappointed because their music was a shadow of their former selves, and seeing how StylipS is now, well... yes, I am scared. I think that they might go the same route as S/mileage did when they lost their two best singers, and one of the most recognisable faces.

Much like YuiKaori are to StylipS.

But that doesn't mean the new additions will be bad, because you never know; these new girls they may choose might just be great additions to StylipS and pull them forward, or they might go the S/mileage route and show a more lacklustre side in their singles, you never know. For me, I do hope that the new StylipS girls will be promising and show strength, and give StylipS a new kind of edge...

But I will still be scared for their future.

I am still upset over this, but writing down my thoughts has greatly helped me with the news; I wanted to rage and cry, much like I did after finding out about the graduation, but being able to have a blog to write on has helped me greatly with the news. Really, after writing this much, I feel a lot better with myself and more at ease with the news, though still a little put out.

But all I can do now as a fan and a 3rd party person is to wish YuiKaori luck, and to hope that they won't fade out or disband YuiKaori, and also to hope that the new girls who will be a part of StylipS will be just as wonderful as these two are. Right now though, all I can do is sit back and wait for more announcements to come out, and we will see where we go from there.

The Chime's of A Sakura Clock - Tasaki Asahi's 'Sakura Dokei' PV Review

My opinions are my own, HIYAAAH!

I had a tough tie deciding whether or not I would review this, because let's be honest; I hate those damn hardsubs more than anything as a blogger, but I also like them as a fan. Either way though, they are effing annoying.

Let's just say that it's a good thing I love Asahi, or else I wouldn't be here doing this review.

Sakura Dokei/Uya no Tsuki is Tasaki Asahi's second indies single under UFP and the SATOYAMA unit, and despite selling a measly 287 copies in the first week of its release, I still think that this is one of the best songs to come out of an indies act under UFP. Granted, I have yet to hear what GREEN FIELDS managed to concoct, but really I have no hope for that group. At all.

I am all for Asahi, personally, and I think that she is dang fabulous. She also knows how to play the piano, which is a major plus for me as a viewer and fan of her. I also think that she is a fantastic singer, and I really do wish she had sold more... but then I remember that UFP are shite with promotion (unless it is, weirdly enough, to do with H!P) and only seem to promote her at the H!P concerts and Satoyama based events... but even then, it is a wonder why her single sold so little.

Anyway, regardless of the single sales, this is a perfect release to me... I have no idea what you guys think though.

... If this keeps going on, I might find myself adding 'neck' to my list of Idol fetishes. That said, she does have a beautiful neck.

I can not honestly say that I relate to this sub; I hated school and I certainly do not cry over the school days gone. In fact, I celebrate.

And here you would think that they would use their hardsubs to help us along with what this bit says, but nope... those mother fuckers just continue to fuck you over, don't they? Bitches.

Damn, this PV pic spam is pretty... well, pretty pathetic in my opinion, but really, what can I do when every other part of the video is made up of subtitles that would basically deflect what I want to say about a certain image or scene, eh? Well regardless, I think that this will do... I guess.

Anyway, regardless of those pesky subs, I do genuinely love this video to the point that I nearly cry when I watch it because, damn, it is so beautiful. I actually think that this is currently my favourite PV by Asahi, not that that's too hard to achieve right now, but also my favourite video from the SATOYAMA based PV's that are out already. It's absolutely stunning and just a pure joy to watch; each shot is beautifully taken, the filter used works well with the image of the song and leaves the impression of days gone by and memories passing, and really gives the video that sense of 'Graduation' and leaving your school days behind.

But it's not just how beautifully shot the video is that gets me; it's Asahi herself. Every time I watch her play the piano, I feel moved and so aware of her passion. I feel extremely happy when I watch her because when you look at her in this video, it is so very obvious that she is passionate about the piano and that she absolutely adores it. Her entire face just lights up, and you can see that it is just her and the piano. The people around her filming don't matter; it's just her and that beautiful instrument, creating something perfect together, and every time I see her face light up I am just so, so moved, and I feel the need to love her more.

Now this is a random titbit I am adding in here, but it is relevant, I promise; I don't think that Asahi is spectacularly beautiful, in fact she is very plain when it comes to her looks, but when I see her on that piano she becomes the most beautiful person in the world to me, because her smile, her eyes, everything about her just shows that she is passionate and so in love with the piano and singing and just doing what she loves, and for me that makes her extremely beautiful, regardless of how plain she looks. Yeah, there are plenty of pretty girls in Hello! Project, but I actually have yet to find someone who has stunned me so much and made me see their beauty through singing or playing an instrument. That may sound terribly cheesy, but it's the truth; not even Gaki's undying love for Morning Musume surpasses Asahi's love for the piano, and seeing her on that piano just changes how I see her, so to me she is probably the most beautiful person in all of Hello! Project because her passion is beyond everyone else's, and just makes her look so god damn beautiful.

To me the PV is perfect; it's beautifully shot, the filter works to both the video and songs credit, and Asahi is just amazing as a performer in this. I especially love her piano scenes, and I really can not get enough of this PV, it is just that beautiful. It represents the theme of Graduation perfectly in both lyrics and video, and is a great second single from Asahi in my opinion, and so far my favourite video from the SATOYAMA based units.

It's gorgeous, and yes I highly recommend you all to watch it. It's a beautiful PV with an extremely beautiful, passionate pianist who is just so wonderful to watch.

It is so nice seeing someone so passionate about what they do, really. And yes, I freakin' LOVE. IT!

In which a very sleepy Chiima decides to review... Oh, and my thoughts are totes my own. YA KNOW WHAT I'M SAYIN'?

Whilst I am saving a video (that is taking its own sweet damn time) I thought that this would be a good opportunity to review a single that recently came out and hit Daily #1 for the first day (it also hit #1 for the second day, too!) on the Oricon charts.

Yes, I am talking about Morning Musume's latest, and Tanaka Reina's final, single Brainstorming/Kimi Sae Ireba Nani mo Iranai.

I have been waiting for the official single to come out for a while now, and as I patiently await my own copies to drop on my doorstep (in a nice shiny package... er, as shiny as cardboard can get...) I have decided to take a look at all the songs and see just what I will be getting as well. The joys of it all, right? Anyway, let's take a look at the track list and see what Morning Musume has in store for us...

Just look at that track list, it looks magnificent, no? Well, I cant say it is magnificent just yet, because we need to listen to it first... So that said, let's take a look at Morning Musume's 53rd single, Brainstorming/Kimi Sae Ireba Nani mo Iranai!

1. Brainstorming

The first track on the list is Brainstorming, a song which I like to think is, in sound, a sort of homage to the past three singles that showed the new direction and sudden progress of Morning Musume after being so 'stale' before the new generations came along and breathed new life into the group. This song, as my nephew so eloquently put it, is the Help Me!! wannabe, though I personally hear more Wakuteka here than I do either Help Me!! or One Two Three, but I guess everyone here's something different, and for me that really doesn't matter, though it will for some.

One of the things that stood out to me the most about this song had to be the use of a lower key; all of a sudden, Riho sounds amazing and like she isn't a dying cat trying to sing its final words, and you know what? I love her voice in this, but it is down to the fact that someone told her to stop screaming and to actually start singing. To be honest though, everyone sounds good in this; they all suit the song and sound amazing, even if some of them only get two words each in this song.

Whatever, at least they get to sing and be heard. This ain't The Matenrou Show.

Still on the topic of solo's, I was highly surprised, but also highly impressed, by Haruna and Ayumi's solo lines in this song. I knew that girls like Riho, Winky, Sayu, Sakuranbo and possibly Mizukingdom would get some sort of bone or two thrown their way, but when it came to Haruna's auto-tuned solo and Ayumi's powerful line, I was stunned and happy. Oh, and Masaki got a line as well, which did surprise me but not as much as Ayumi or Haruna; I had a feeling that Masakissu would eventually get a line or something. But yeah, I was impressed, and hearing these girls singing solo's and sounding awesome gives me hope for Morning Musume's line distribution in the future.

Personally, I think that this is a good song and a nice tribute to their past three singles (even if one of them did suck balls) and I think that it sounds good. Also, the lyrics kind of prove that this song is there to pay tribute to Singles 50, 51 and 52, and this song and the performance the girls give really gives me a lot of hope for Morning Musume after Winky the Squirrel graduates.

2. Kimi Sae Ireba Nani mo Iranai

From what I know, people either like this song or think that it is one giant mess of fail. I just so happen to be one of those people who actually like it, weirdly enough. Don't judge me, you all liked One Two Three!!!

Now I personally find this song a joy to listen to, though I wouldn't listen to it all the time, mostly because this song was, sadly, the return of a high pitched dieing cat and squirrel, which is an honest shame because Brainstorming sounded so good, however I don't think that this song is bad because, again, I do like it a lot. The beat is catchy and really gets into your head, it has a good rhythm and pulse underlying it and I love how funky and club-like it sounds. I also really dig the whole 2000 people on the dance floor line that people seem to hate (only because there are 11 people on the dance floor, minus the cameraman in the PV) because it reminds me of rave music that I used to listen to constantly as a little teen.

Other than the atrocious abuse of Riho and Reina's vocals though, I also really hate the use of harmonies in this song; the harmonies don't sound pretty to my ears, though I can't say that I haven't grown used to them because I have, but listening to them reminds me of that Sakura/Riho b-side from Help Me!! and how terrible and scratchy they sounded when attempting harmonies together; it doesn't fit, though both Reina and Fukumura's harmonies sounded pretty much perfect together - it was the others (Oda and Ayumi, Oda and Mizuki) that didn't, and that nearly turned me off of this song.

Overall a pretty good song with a great beat, though I think that UFP need to learn how to put the right girls together when trying to harmonise, though thank goodness they realised that Sakuranbo and Riho sound horrible together or we would have another case of whatever mess their duet was. But still... good song, and I do like it, but it ain't no Brainstorming.

3. Rock no Teigi

Tsunku has recently gotten into the habit of giving graduating members solo songs on their final singles (all but Aika, because hers was a last minute bail), so no surprise here that Reina herself gets one. Only available on the Limited A, this song is supposed to be a 'rock' tune that seems to represent the present Reina, and is also a song that Tsunku hopes she will continue to use once she fully dedicates herself to her band. When I first heard this song, my immediate thought was that this was a true Platinum era song, and seemed to represent Reina well because of that familiar platinum era sound.

The opening of the song reminds me of SONGS and a Morning Musume platinum era concert opening, and thinking about it, what better way to represent Reina than with a song that sounds like one of the era's where she pretty much reigned? This song is, in my opinion, quite perfect for Reina's graduation solo. It isn't hopeful in sound like Ai's was, or thankful in tone like Gaki's, but instead very upfront and in your face... kind of like how Reina is. The song is a burst of energy and hardness that just screams 'WINKY', but not so harsh that it knocks you over. That said, I also don't think that this is a real 'rock' tune, more like Idol rock.

But more rock than some Idol rock songs I have heard, I guess.

Sadly, Reina's voice really does not match up to the song, which is one of the reasons why it sounds so Idoly in my opinion. Her squeaky little voice kind of ruins it actually, bringing the quality down by quite a bit. That's a personal opinion, but I think that if Reina had used a lower tone it would have sounded better, but she didn't; she just used her good ol' Winky voice that we all know and are tired of... Oh, and the voice that some of you guys love. But her voice isn't bad... it's just the same and I am tired of that same old voice.

Simply put, I like the song, but not Reina's voice in this. Luckily this is not the song I like the least on this entire single which is, for me at least, a damn good thing considering this was one of the two copies that I bought. And that brings me to the next song...

4. A B C D E-cha E-cha Shitai

My initial reaction to this song was that it was one giant, hot mess, and I had a deep regret for buying a version of this single that contained this song... in fact, I still do. I don't like this song much, though my thoughts about it now are better than when I first listened to it, because I did hate it quite a bit.

I think my dislike actually came from the fact that I thought, like many of their recent b-sides, this would be a very cutesy song that was so Idol generic and sugary, but instead it came out cool and frisky in beat and, for once, did not contrast the cool tones of the A-side(s), so I was shocked and did not like it. I still don't like some parts of it, but admittedly the chorus is extremely catchy and fun to listen to, and Kudo Haruka's DO's!!! are a nice add in there along with the echoes and the kiss noises.

I actually think that I need to let this song grow on me, so if I start liking it later on its because I gave it more time, but I tend to have a harder time with some of Morning Musume's heavier electro themed songs, and this just so happens to be pretty heavy on the electro effects in my opinion, though they are very well put together; thank goodness this is not a second coming of One Two Three.

Anyway, as I said, it's a catchy song and can be fun to listen to. Sadly, it does (once again) show the return of Riho dying as she sings, but that seems to be my only other issue with this song other than the fact that I am still getting used to this tune.

It's a good song I guess, but I doubt that it will ever be my favourite because currently, it is the weakest song on my list, and I usually like the b-side group songs. Doesn't stop that chorus being dang catchy, though!

5. Tokimeku Tokimeke

Now is it just me, or does this sound a little bit like a C-ute song rather than a Morning Musume B-side, because to me it does, though mostly the opening. Also, I am incredibly surprised that this isn't as auto-tuned as I expected it to be, and I will get to that sooner or later...

Tokimeku Tokimeke is the b-side song that is made up of the girls in Morning Musume who are in high school or older, contrasting the younger generations group song. This also happens to be the group that is made up of Morning Musume's worst singers, with Fukumura being the most talented, and Sayumi being the most experienced, though each girl seems to have improved significantly since their debut; however, this is still the group made up of the girls who can't hold a candle to the likes of Masaki, Sakura and Haruka. No offense.


The song, surprisingly enough, isn't as auto-tuned as I expected it to be; being a group that includes three girls who are frequently auto-tuned to the high heavens (Haruna, Sayu and Fukumura) I did expect this song to have some heavy auto-tune and electro sound to it like Aishuu Romantic did, however I am extremely happy that this time around auto-tune really did not play a huge role in this song; it's refreshing, and the girls all sound amazing as they are anyway, and the little bit of auto tune they do pay around with is forgiveable and actually sounds good, so yeah... I'm pretty happy.

The song itself however is just as 'cool' and 'mature' in sound as I expected it be, but I guess that's a given since the group is made up of the older girls in Morning Musume right now, but it's also fun to listen to and extremely catchy as well, but that's down to the fact that this song is so damn repetitive  I'm not complaining though, because I love repetition.

All the girls sound amazing, and Eripon continues to show vast improvement in her singing abilities with every single b-side I hear her in, and so does Haruna who, whilst still not the best singer, is really improving despite how bad she sounded in her early days as a Morning Musume member. In fact all of these girls have impressed me in this song, both when singing solo and when singing together; they sound amazing as a group, but I love that they were all able to join together in this song and show their own strengths and skills in singing as well as show off their improvement. It's good, and whilst not a favourite song of mine, I do find it slightly addicting when I get into it, and that's all that matters I guess.

At least I don't hate it.

6. Itsumo to Onnaji Seifuku de

And so we come to the final, and also my favourite, song on the entire single. Oh yes, I love this!

Itsumo to Onnaji Seifuku de is  song sung by the youngest members of Morning Musume, all in either elementary or middle school, and is all about young girls who can't wait to see their crush. It's a very cute and uplifting song that really fits the younger members well, especially Masaki who, thank goodness, is a lead in this song along with Sakura and, surprisingly, Haruka. The song is just so cute and happy, and I really enjoy listening to it. I truly have a soft spot for songs that sound youthful and sweet, especially if the image of the song fits with the voices of the girls singing it.

The girls all sound great in this, especially Masaki and Haruka, though Sakura really did not stand out to me at all in this song because I generally mistook her for either Masaki or Haruka, though she tended to be softer than Haruka's voice when they had a solo after each other. Zukki's voice seems to have somewhat matured and softened here, because when I heard her she sounded like herself, but also she sounded different in a way, like she had improved. I was surprised by this, but she sounds so good here. Riho too sounds good; the song isn't that high pitched in my opinion, and she sounds very natural and, well, sweet. I actually enjoyed how she sounded in this.

But Masaki still wins in my ranks as the best singer of the younger generation, just sayin'... though admittedly, Haruka is coming a close second.

I like this song, though you all know this already, but I think that it is a fantastic song to add to the track list. It's cute, youthful and carefree and, compared to the other songs on this single, extremely refreshing because everything else is so mature and cool. This is sweet and positive, and just a nice addition to the track list as a breath of fresh air in my opinion. It may not be the best song, and maybe some of you will disagree with me that this is the best song on the track list, but I enjoy it and think that it's wonderful... but that's just how I am.

Conclusion:

So to conclude this post, yes, I like this single, but in general I love or like almost anything Morning Musume produces, give or take a few songs. This time around I think that Tsunku has produced two solid A-sides that really are worth being A-sides, especially Brainstorming. The songs are catchy, up-beat and something that you can easily dance along to in your room for the hell of it, and the B-side songs are just as catchy and good as the A-side songs are.

I guess the only problem I have with this entire single is to do with the fact that the songs, all but one, are very cool and mature, which really does not leave any room for contrast or differentiation. Yes, I know that this is the direction that Morning Musume are going in when it comes to their image, but I would have liked to hear different emotions in the songs rather than five mature, cool songs and one cute and carefree song, though admittedly having so many songs that are cool, electro-heavy and so on has made me greatly appreciate the one cute song that appears on here. Is having a bunch of cool songs a bad thing, though? No way, but with the way I go on about it you think so... I would have just liked to see some variation in the songs moods. Yeah, their sound varies and they each have a distinct, individual beat that makes the songs stand out from each other, but their themes sound similar tune-wise... if you get what I mean.

I doubt you do, I confuse myself as well, so don't worry.

So all in all it's a pretty good, solid single. I don't think it's their best single, but I think that this has one of the best A-sides that Tsunku has produced for Morning Musume since Ren'ai Hunter, though that is, once again, a personal opinion.

Wanna Be my Baby? - Wonder Girls 'Be My Baby' PV Request Review

All thoughts are totally my own... like, totally.

This is late... very late. But I'm doing it, because I said I would finish these, and damnit I will! Weirdly enough though, I told myself that I would do a review for my Request Chronicles at the start of my half term holidays, and now I am back in college... I seriously suck at dedication and time management!

I'm really sorry that it took so long! Anyway, here we go!

So before I start trying to apologise all over again, this is the last request from Shayna's list of K-pop artists that she wanted me to listen to. The list she gave me actually included songs from the group After School, but even before she listed a few songs to listen to (one including the fabulous AOA's Get Out), she included ANYTHING BY THE WONDER GIRLS!!! and after viewing After School's songs that had been listed (Shampoo and Flashback) I realised that I was not interested...

So I decided to look at the group Wonder Girls to see what they had, and if I would be interested in anything. I did find something, and surprisingly it was the first video I clicked on when looking, but I was a bit surprised that I had taken to this song so quickly. It isn't the most striking video I have ever seen, and it lacks a lot of colour, but I guess that's what makes it charming to me... it stands out inaa different way. Also, the song is pretty catchy and out of the other Wonder Girls MV's and songs I had heard, this song stuck out to me the most. Hence why I decided that this would be the 'Request' review that I looked at... it's kind of a request, right?

The song and video that I am talking about is Be My Baby by Wonder Girls.

So first things first: I found this video by just typing Wonder Girls into the youtube search engine, and this was one of the video's that popped up. The video was released in 2011 and is a part of Wonder Girls' second album, Wonder World. When I first watched this video, I was immediately hooked, and I think that it has to do with the fact that it uses the monochrome effect more than anything, though some people might find that a little boring.

I actually find it really interesting and it reminds me of a black and white movie, though there are pops of colours here and there in the video.

Another thing that made me like the video was that it had a bit of an old-fashioned quality to its look, mostly in the scene with the light-up staircase. It also had a lot of familiarity to it for me, because the first time I watched this I could not help but be reminded of Girls Aloud's music video for their song The Promise.

Okay, so they aren't strikingly similar, but when I watched it I just felt that they had the same style in how it was filmed and the 'era' that they were portraying; I felt strongly that Be My Baby reminded me of The Promise, and I have a feeling that is another reason why I seemed to take to this song by the Wonder Girls so much, because it felt familiar.

... Even if I never initially liked The Promise that much.

But other than the similar feel of those scenes, the rest of the video of Be My Baby is vastly different thanks to the use of different sets. The sets used in this include the girls on light-up stairs, a white room and a room with a platform. There is also a good amount of well-edited shots that give more variety to the video, though that's pretty much it, because other than the scene changes and the different camera angles used, the rest of the video is basically a dance shot.

We just get a good amount of variety when it comes to how the video is edited and shot, though I don't mind this; the video isn't exactly lost without a solo close-up, though it would have helped me to get a good look at each girls' faces better if they didn't move so much. It's not a huge problem though; I actually like how this video is edited. It looks very clean and professional, so having no stand alone close-up shots is fine.

One of the things that really caught my eye with this video though was the use of selective/spot colour; whilst the rest of the video keeps its monochrome feel, there are parts where certain spots of colour are used to brighten it up a little. Though the colour isn't much, it certainly stands out and adds a great effect to the video. It's interesting to see, and I think that the choice to use it was a good choice because it makes certain scenes stand out more.

That, and it works well with the monochrome effect. I especially like the pink, it looks very vibrant in the scenes and makes certain girls recognisable.

This video also has some pretty snazzy editing. I love that it is cut to the beat; it works so effectively and just looks awesome.

There are also some solo dance shots added into the video, and whilst I don't understand why, I think that it works well with the video, especially when the lights go on and off the way they do in this video. It adds a cool effect, and for some reason reminds me of something that Beyonce might do. I don't know if it's Beyonce or not... I tend to ignore English music.

But regardless, it works, especially with the shadows.

The video is pretty simple, but I really enjoyed watching it. I like that the variety is used in the shots and the sets rather than how many costumes they can cram the girls in or the varying close-up shots. The way that certain things were done, such as the lights flickering between on and off to create the silhouettes of the girls and the use of selecting colours to stand out against the monochrome filter, made this video visually appealing and fun to watch. Okay, so it was one giant dance shot, but I loved the amount of variety it has; the shots were done nicely, everything looks clean and the editing is amazing. I love that they cut to the beat and how the overall finish of the video worked with the song.

Which is pretty damn awesome, by the way.

I like Be My Baby, though I do have an issue with one of the singers, but let me praise the song first because it is really good in my opinion. It's like a mix between vintage, old-fashioned music that I would hear from the Grease-esque era and Kpop. It's catchy and upbeat, but it still sounds quite cool. I also love the repetitive beats and words used in the song; it makes it easier to sing along to.

The girls (bar one) all sound fantastic in this too... until you get to the girl who opens up the song and sings the 'rap' part, or whatever it is. I don't know why, but her voice is a major turn off for me in this song. She sounds bored and her voice sticks out like a sore thumb, but luckily the song is saved by the catchy chorus and the fun beat, so thank goodness for that. Also, I am thankful that she doesn't sing too much in this... or it would put me off the song completely, I think. Other than that though, I do enjoy this song and have yet to get bored of it! It's pretty darned good!

So yeah, Be My Baby is good. I like the video and the song, and whilst it may be pretty basic and very simple in how it is filmed and in the choreography too (yes, it's so simple, but dang it is cute!) I do think that this is a really good MV. It works for the song and fits well with it. The sound and the monochrome effect make it look so much more old fashioned and for me that is really appealing. I think that it looks good... but I don't think that this is enough to get me into the Wonder Girls really. I may like it, but this is no Get Out.

It's good, but it ain't that good.

Afilia Initiation, Archism and Potions Class! Here is Afilia Saga's 'Koi no Wizard Hyaku Nen Sensou' PV!

I don't know why, but waking up early and going back to college after a two week break seems to have made me want to do something... mostly blog and write and such, but strangely enough it has made me want to get into gear. How long this will last is beyond me (probably up until I finish this post, knowing my luck) but I'm glad I have some motivation back, because once again I have fallen out of loop with my blog...

Not that I've been away for that long, but I feel like I haven't blogged as much as I wanted to over the holidays. Then again, I am a Master Procrastinator. Oops.

So a while back (like a week or two ago, actually) Afilia Saga East released the short MV to their music video for their album songs Koi no Wizard Hyaku Nen Sensou. To cut the (short) story short, I fell in love with it because the preview promised this immensely colourful and fun PV that just seemed to spew rainbows and cuteness. That, and it was visually creative and just fun to watch, so of course I was anticipating the full PV for more cuteness and all around happiness.

... And whaddaya know, a few days later the full PV appears! I didn't jump to reviewing it though, but I have been watching it and listening to the song relentlessly like some obsessed Wota (Oh wait...) because I love it. It's wonderful.

And it's colourful. Also: Maid costumes!

... Wait, isn't it better to show you rather than tell you about it? Yes, well good, because it's time to take a good look at Afilia Saga's latest PV, Koi no Wizard Hyaku Nen Sensou! Prepare, young ones, for the maids are a comin'!

Okay, is it just me, or does the part where they go in a line in pairs remind you of a wedding? It did when I first saw it, and yes, I raged when Mah and Emiu weren't paired together.

It's always funny being reminded just how short Kohime is~

Okay, regardless of the headband... I love this shot of Miku Doll, she looks stunning!!!

A nice shot of Afilia Ass, though it isn't close enough... and the camera isn't low enough on the ground either.

It also needs to be closer to Emiu and Maho's butts, preferably, though I wouldn't argue to Raymee's, either.

Oh hell yeah, turning!!!

... I actually loved this scene for the very predictable turning to the camera motion. It works effectively in my opinion.

This reminds me of Charlie's Angels...

Though only slightly.

And so we return to the questionable wall that I am unsure about whether or not it is a green screen...

So looking back at when I first saw the preview of this MV, I was extremely excited for both the song and the video; the video looked visually appealing, and the fun, colourful elements used in the video work well with the cute song, so after watching the preview (and looping it multiple times like a crazy person), I began to anticipate the full version of the video because, yes, I was in love with it.

So when the full version did come out, I was even more in love, especially when I saw that additional scenes had been added that were not present in the original MV preview of this song. I was surprised by those scenes, but I loved the tie in it had to the title of the song, because mixing potions reminds me of Hogwarts, and Hogwarts houses Wizards... so yeah, it was great to see a little bit of a tie-in thrown in there. It also added a bit of variety, which is always nice!

Watching this video, I am still amazingly entranced as I was when I first saw it all the way through; I still love everything about it and I can honestly tell you that it fails to bore me. The song and the sheer concept of the video are just wonderful, and it really catches your attention with the amount of colour it has and the constant change in backgrounds. Some may say that these backgrounds are childish and garish, but I don't think it looks overly childish or garish; it just looks fun. The patterns, whilst simple, are quirky and add that cute element to the video that really brings out the personalities of these girls, but there is also a moment of 'toughness' that comes into the video, mostly when the girls pose with the guns. That said, the bright and vibrant colours within this video are my main reasons for liking it greatly... other than Emiu and Maho, of course.

I like visually appealing things, and I like colour and cute things, and I think that Koi no Wizard Hyaku Nen Sensou did a good job of bringing all these things together and making them work. The girls look cute and lively, the ever-changing backgrounds fit the tone and mood of the song and the way everything edited together really appeals to me as a viewer. I love that it is so bright and different to everything else that Afilia has ever done; it's like a storybook in a way, bright and fun and a great read for those who like colour and patterns, except that this isn't a book and those patterns move.

And we get to see cute maid. In fact, yummy maids. Yum.

Aside from the colour and how much I love it, I also loved the additional scenes with the girls playing around with potions and the dance scenes; I was surprised that the floor had its own patterns going on during the dance shots actually, but I find it extremely interesting, and I love that their dance backdrop changed with the pace of the song. It reminds me of the screen in Brainstorming (one of the reasons why I believe Tsunku directed this MV) actually, because the images change with the songs own pace much like the music bars changed with the pace of Brainstorming's beat. Speaking of which, there is a similar 'dance battle' thrown into this video's dance shot which also reminded me of Brainstorming, though more girls fight and it's more playful rather than dance based, so I found that pretty interesting when watching this. It put the microphone-guns to good use though, and it looked like a lot of fun and kept that bright, fun beat carefree even in the choreography.

The additional scenes, as I said, are another part of the MV that I like; I found them surprising when I first watched the MV, but I love them. I like that potions were incorporated because I feel like it suits the title of the song, but also because the potions are used in a different manner than normal, such as Raymee, Yukafin and Maho drinking them and subsequently getting drunk from the liquids. How, I don't know, but I found those particular scenes pretty cute and fun to watch, especially Raymee, who is so new but already seems to fit in well with the other girls.

... Actually, let's talk about the newbs, shall we?

Raymee Heavenly (and isn't she just?) joined last December, but this is her first PV and album with Afilia Saga, and I actually really like her in this PV. It's taken me a while to adjust to her though, because I actually didn't know what to think about her... It has something to do with her droopy eyes, but she is adorable and I like that she seems to be at home with the other girls already.

... And then there's Raina S Mauser, who came into the group after Kurumi LaLa Milk and Meiry Malonfeel graduated. Now, I don't know why, but I don't like her. Her face reminds me of a puffer fish for some reason, and her teeth (like Yukafin's) scare me. However, she looks damn cool sometimes.

Introductions over (Why am I introducing them?), I actually think that the newbs were great i this MV, Raymee more so but I have a feeling I will be biased towards her... but I liked them both performance wise. They both has great energy and are both equally cute, I also love that they were added into the 'dance battles' with other girls. It was cute to watch.

So that said and done, I really like the MV. It's quirky and colourful, and for me, the best that I have seen from Afilia Saga. The visuals are bright and fun, and I love that the editors played around with it and made each background different for different scenes; no scene is the same as the last, and I think that it works with the bright song and the bright, fun personalities of the girls. It's cheerful, it makes me feel happy when I watch it, and I enjoy it for all the colour and fun it has. Even the dance is cute and quirky with these silly little pieces added in. And, of course, I love that they managed to get the Maid outfits in there.

You always need the maid outfits, guys. It's Afilia, come on!

Moving quickly onto the song, I really like it as well. In fact I love it. It's fun and just great to listen to. I feel uplifted when I hear this song and I love singing along to it, especially the K-K-K-Koi no Wizard Hyaku Nen Sensou Kaiishi... it's so catchy and easy to sing along to. The song sounds so friendly and happy, and I can't help but feel like writing whenever I listen to... which is another thing. I haven't found a song that puts me in the mood to write for a while, so finding this song and realising that I want to write when listening to it makes me pretty happy, so bonus points for this song!

All and all, I think that this is a perfect release from Afilia Saga. Call me biased, but I think it is perfect. It's colourful, fun and cute, and it looks and sounds so friendly when you watch the full version. The shots are done perfectly, I like that it captures the energy of the girls (especially Maho) and also manages to give us a cute little added scene that can make you laugh. It's creative and effective in all aspects; the choreography, the use of colour and how that colour is used and the 'potions' class - it is all creative and executed wonderfully in my opinion, and it just makes me love Afilia Saga even more... even if my Kurumi LaLa Milk has gone.

I have not been this excited to review a PV for a while, I think, because as I write this I am on such a high for these girls, their song and video makes me feel so excited and happy... and yeah, I haven't had that for a while I think. It actually makes me wonder why it took me so long to write the review, but honestly I love it, and I want to share it with you all because I love it so much. It's amazing, it makes me happy, and I think that everyone should take a look at it, and even if you don't like it... well, okay! At least you chanced it!

A wonderful release from an amazing group who I love. I really hope that their next release is just around the corner, too...
